The I love Allah series, are a series of post by the ladies in our youth program. You can read more of their posts here.

Salam comes from the root seen-laam-meem, which points to three main meanings. The first main meaning is to be peaceful, content and tranquil. The second is to be free from imperfection and the third main meaning is to be safe, secure and well.
Allah(S.W.T) calls himself As-Salam which means the Giver and Source of Peace, the Perfection…

He is Allah—there is no god except Him: the King, the Most Holy, the All-Perfect, the Source of Serenity, the Watcher ˹of all˺, the Almighty, the Supreme in Might, the Majestic. Glorified is Allah far above what they associate with Him ˹in worship˺! [59:23]

The word salama has the same root with Islam which means to enter into peace and to be at peace.

Our greeting As-Salam Alaykum(peace be upon) was also gotten from salam(peace) and Allah instructs believers to greet one another with words of peace in…

There is no restriction on the blind, or the disabled, or the sick. Nor on yourselves if you eat from your homes, or the homes of your fathers, or your mothers, or your brothers, or your sisters, or your paternal uncles, or your paternal aunts, or your maternal uncles, or your maternal aunts, or from the homes in your trust, or ˹the homes of˺ your friends. There is no blame on you eating together or separately. However, when you enter houses, greet one another with a greeting ˹of peace˺ from Allah, blessed and good. This is how Allah makes His revelations clear to you, so perhaps you will understand. [24:61]

Paradise is called Daar us Salaam which is gotten from the word salam (peace).

“And Allah invites to the Home of peace and guides whom He wills to a straight path” [10.25].

May we be amongst the people invited to the Home of peace. Amin

How can we connect with this name?

  • Thank Allah for all the peace and blessings in your life and to pray for continued peace in your life.
  • Submit to As-Salam, so you can secure. If you submit to Islam, you will get Allah’s Salam
  • Be patient in trials: Knowing that no disaster strikes without the permission of Allah, it teaches us to show patience and perseverance in hard times and As-Salam will give you peace inside.
  • Spread the Salam: When two Muslims meet, give salam and shakes hands, and they are forgiven their sins before they part [Abu Dawood]
  • Use it to supplicate:

Prophet Muhammad(S.A.W) used to say Allahuma antas Salam wa minkas salam tabaarakta yaa Dhal Jalalaali walk Ikraam which means O Allah, You are As-Salam and from You is all peace. Blessed are You, O Possesser of Majesty and Honour[Muslim] after salah.

“Verily in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest” and As-Salam is the only one who can give rest to those hearts in distress.
