Qur’anic Reflections: From Surah Al A’raf

Asalaamu ‘Alaikum

So recently, I was reciting a portion of Surah Al Araf and I came across this ayah…

…Who took their religion as distraction and amusement and whom the worldly life deluded.” So today We will forget them just as they forgot the meeting of this Day of theirs and for having rejected Our verses. [7:51]

The ayahs before this describe the Day of judgement. The fate of the righteous and the dwellers of hell. May Allah save us. The people of hell would ask from the people of paradise some of the luxuries they have been given e.g food or water and they would respond that Allah has forbidden it for them for what they used to do.

What did they use to do?

They were so focused on this life rather than on their meeting with their Lord i.e. working for their akhirah so Allah would ‘forget’ them in hell like they forgot Him.

[ SubhanAllah! What a wretched end…May Allah save us. How many times do we forget to pray, or forget to do something deen-related๐Ÿ˜ญ because we were too busy doing something dunya-related]

Refer to surahs 9:67, 20:126, 45:34

Questions to ask me:

Am I deluded by this life?

How focused am I on my akhira?

Do I remember my meet with Allah?

Do I reject His signs?

How does one reject His signs?

Action plans [How I can apply this ayah]

-To obey Allah and recognise His signs I need to know Him. How do I know Him? By reading His Book and understanding His words to me

-Take something out of the Qur’an daily inshaAllah.

-Remember the hereafter often…take account of myself. Always ask me, what could I have done better today and then inshaAllah tomorrow, do better.

-If I am faced with 2 choices, first pick which is better for my akhira

Please share what else you can derive from this ayah. Or any of your reflections๐Ÿ˜Š.

Jazakumullahu khayr

Till next time,

Asalaamu ‘alaikum
